I saw this project in the July/August issue of Hobby Farm Home magazine. We did this as an activity for the children at the Farmers Market yesterday. The kids LOVED it and at the end of the market, most of the vendors were making ice cream in a bag too! LOL!! I forgot to take pictures yesterday, even had the camera with me! Sorry! This would be a great project for the kiddos at your 4th of July party, we are going to have the kids here give it a try!
Bagged Ice Cream
1 cup half-and-half
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
4 to 6 cups ice
1/3 cup rock salt
Mix half-and-half, sugar and vanilla in a quart-sized bag. Combine ice and salt in a gallon-sized bag. Place the smaller sealed bag inside the large one, seal and roll back and forth on a table top for 5 minutes or so. Makes 1 cup.
It is a softer ice cream and you can add candy, cookies, etc. to the finished ice cream. Eat it right out of the bag or snip off a corner of the quart bag and squeeze the ice cream into a bowl. I tried just holding the bag and turning it over and over but it gets too darned cold! LOL!! The table top works much better! :) Ice from the ice maker or bagged ice from the store works much better than ice cube tray ice, it is just too big but could be crushed up some and then used. Hope you give this a try this summer!
sounds dangerous - especially adding in whatever's handy. yum!
