I'm such an old hippie, I just love wearing jumpers! When I heard this fall that big sweaters with leggings were back in style, it made me think of jumpers with leggings. The green and black jumper below was an overdress from back in my days of playing with the SCA. I shortened it a couple of weeks ago and wore it with the black thermal long-sleeved shirt and some black nylons for Thanksgiving. I liked it so much that I went hunting material for a couple more!
The jumper I'm wearing and the green one are both corduroy and I don't remember what type of material the plaid one is! It is really soft and reminded me of wool which is why I bought it. I threw it in the washer and dryer before sewing and it came out just fine. I used the green jumper as a pattern for the other two. I also cheated and serged all the edges before sewing and then just turned them under and sewed them down so I didn't have to make facings, shhhh...don't tell the sewing police! ;-)
With a pair of leggings and a thermal shirt, these jumpers are surprisingly warm and they are so, so comfortable! I may not be up on the latest fashions but I don't think the goats and chickens really mind! LOL!! When I modeled the brown one for Jerry this morning he said "Well, you certainly look very 60s!"

nothing wrong with being an old hippie - as long as you're comfortable and you look good! :)
ReplyDeleteSoft corduroy sounds really comfy about now! Wish I knew how (and liked) to sew like that! :)
ReplyDeleteAnything soft and comfy is my kind of clothing. I love getting into fleece PJ's in the evening.Them and a good book, I am set.
ReplyDeleteThey all look comfy and really timeless, just basic jumper. Good job
ReplyDeleteI was so surprised to see several ladies at work wearing skirts and leggings and leg warmers! It's like a weird flashback. I do love the green jumper!
ReplyDeleteWell, as I've always said, as long as what you're wearing doesn't scare the animals, you're good to go! I think the jumpers are cute. I'm in skirts most the time and I know what you mean about them (the jumpers or skirts) being a lot warmer than you think. Throw on a pair of leggings and a warm shirt and you're ready!
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm....never had one, but then I guess I missed all that hippy stuff. Bummer, 'cause they do look nice 'n warm. Love the red plaid one best!
ReplyDeleteTWG,
ReplyDeleteI'm all for the comfort!
Alica,
If you ever want to start sewing, a jumper would be a perfect first project! :)
Michelle,
Ooohhh, fleece PJs are the best!
Tombstone Livestock,
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
Teresa,
Guess we should have saved some of our older clothes, who knew?!? ;-)
Mama Tea,
ReplyDeleteThat's funny about not scaring the animals!! LOL!!
Carolyn Renee,
The plaid is my favorite too! :)
Yeah, I did sweaters and leggings in university -not doing it again. I love jumpers and am working on one to coordinate with Ella's. I hate facings, that's why I fully line most of my dresses. I love the cord jumpers. Our house is too full of cat hair for cord :)
ReplyDeleteThose look so comfortable.
ReplyDeleteI love the jumpers and corduroy is my favorite fabric. I like wearing long skirts and boots in the winter. I bought some leggings last year but never got up the nerve to wear them. You have been my inspiration, I'll have to give it a go. Cathy
ReplyDeleteCandy,
ReplyDeleteI loved the fashion show.... I like the idea of serging the edges to save time. I dread working with facing. I think your jumpers are very cute and look so comfy. I have long legs, so something that ends above the knee is perfect for me too, not too binding against the legs with my long steps. hehe. I hope you're having a nice weekend and staying warm and cozy.
I grew up wearing skirts/dresses/jumpers only and in my opinion jumpers are the most comfortable and practical of the three. (I mostly wear jeans now, though.)
ReplyDeletePaula,
ReplyDeleteI'm having more problems with the leggings and the cat hair than the corduroy! LOL!!
Kristina,
They are! :)
Cathy,
You should give it a try! I might try some boots with my jumpers thanks to you!
Heidi,
ReplyDeleteI know it's cheating not using a facing but hey, it works for me!
Kateri,
I wear jeans most of the time too but sometimes I just like to be "girly!"
Cute! I've laways been "low maintanenece" and I miss being able to find corduroy overalls. I had some about 10 years ago. I worm them to work with with a turtleneck and a nordic cardigan Warm and comfy and ok for school! Dang LL Bean stopped making them :(
ReplyDeleteNancy,
ReplyDeleteI'll bet your corduroy overalls were really cute! Too bad you can't find them anymore.
