Chats on the Farmhouse Porch - 05/28/2013

1.  When you were a child, what age did you think was "OLD?"

Well, of course anyone over 30 was ANCIENT!! Isn't it funny how the older we get, the older "old" becomes? LOL!!

2.  How often do you have dessert?

We rarely have a "formal" dessert but there are nearly always cookies on the Goody Plate. ;)

3.  What's your favorite kind of exercise?

Walking. I love to get outdoors and walk, it puts me in touch with nature.

4.  Do you watch movies on TV, movies from a rental or the library, or movies online?

We watch old movies on the TV and rent newer releases from the Redbox.

5.  Tell me something you remember about your grandmother's/grandfather's house? I'm thinking of something you saw all of the time, like a picture, clock, statue, teapot, or something that was always there.

I remember my grandmother's African Violets. She had a table covered with all different kinds in the corner of the living room.

  1. Candy,
My Great-Aunt (Great Grandma's Sister-In-Law) had hundreds of African Violets. Hundreds. She caught rain water to feed them and had several buckets of rain water in her basement. She said the secret to African Violets was to talk or sing to them. I have no doubt she did just that!

  2. my Great Auntie Ella (Ella's namesake) was amazing with African violets too! Hers were always growing out of the pots.

  4. It is funny how the older we get the older "young" is to us! I have three African violets that I have managed to keep alive... I've killed many over the years but I keep trying because I love them.

  6. This was a fun one...I thought 60 was old...and now my parents are in their 80's and in good health. (so thankful!!) Old age is relative, that's for sure! And as for my Grandparent's house? I have sooo many memories there, but I best remember Grandma sitting in her black rocking chair, and the Grandfather's clock that my Grandpa made, chiming on the quarter hour!

  7. I love African Violets. I used to have a bookshelf full of them before we took off in the trailer. I wonder if that means I was old before my time?

  8. As I'm inching ever closer to 50, I'm thinking that I should have been very happy to have been 30 and 50 doesn't seem nearly as old as it use to!

I enjoyed reading your post and am following you via the Feedly reader. Have a great week!

  9. I love the idea of a "goody plate". It may not be a good idea as I would need to do more walking. Have a blessed week :O)

  11. That brought back memories - I remember my paternal grandmother's front porch. It had a wonderful porch swing that was next to a huge honeysuckle bush. It smelled heavenly - but attracted bees!

  14. What a fun post. I remember at my grandmas house sliding down the stairs from the second floor on our rear ends, which after a few times would be bruised, since there was no carpet on the stairs :)

  15. There are always memories of grandmother's house, aren't there? Mine was crazy (in a good way) so I remember mannequins, comic books, prom dresses from when my mom was young, and artificial flowers stuck in everything (in later days she couldn't plant very well).

  17. My grandmother had a picture window in her dining room and it was covered with African Violets. She loved them. My two sisters keep them too. I haven't got much of a green thumb for them. Thanks for joining in!
