Random 5 Friday - 01/31/2014

1.  YAY!! I did it! I made bagels and they turned out great! :) I used this recipe with the brown sugar option.

2.  The weather has been unseasonably warm here for the past few weeks while most of you have been dealing with Polar Vortexes.

3.  As a result, my fruit trees are trying to bud out. This does not bode well for the fruit harvest this summer.

4.  On the other hand though, my winter garden is doing great! Spinach, radishes, carrots, kale, beets, turnips, rutabagas and snow peas are all coming along nicely.

5.  It's time to get the outdoor cats, Bert and Ernie, "fixed." Somekitty sprayed in Jerry's shop yesterday.

Hmmm...pretty random ramblings today. Linking up with Nancy for Random 5 Friday.

  2. Candy,

I have always wanted to try making bagels. After seeing your Wednesday post I want to make pretzel rolls too.

I can't get my mind around a winter garden. That must be fun!

-2* this morning. The good news is I don't think the wind is blowing. Glad you have some nice warm temps to enjoy.

    Happy Weekend, My Friend!

  7. The barley malt is easy to find at any natural food store and it's on amazon but you need to buy it in bulk for it to make sense there. Since I make bagels every two weeks I buy the stuff by the case. It really makes a difference in the taste. I don't know that I can describe it - it's subtle but it's there.

    Yours look amazing!

We had one day last weekend that got up into the 50s and I thought I had died and gone to heaven haha. But it was just for one day and now we're stuck in the cold again. Brrr.

  11. Those Bagels look yummo!!
Sometimes getting a male kitty fixed doesn't always stop spraying. Sad but true.
Wow lucky you with the warm weather. We're dropping back down to chillier temps here again but I know with Feb. being a short month it won't last for long.

  22. Those bagels look so yummy. Not good about the fruit budding already. That happened two years ago here and we had no apples that fall.
