Skywatch Friday #38

Local wisdom states that until the mesquite trees bud out we could still get a freeze. The temperature is going to be in the mid-to-upper 80s today with still no buds in sight.

Linking up with Skywatch Friday this week.

  7. Seeing the tree made me think how good this wood is for flavoring a BBQ.

  8. Our farmers haven't planted yet, normally we're in danger of frost until after April 15 but historically the best bet is May; however, I see the stores are starting to get their bedding plants in. It's been in the 80s here!

  10. Well, if it's the Mesquite tree they use as a guide...and this is remotely accurate.
All our indicators (in the field behind us) got bull dozed late last year.

    So now I'm clueless!

  11. I'm still not convinced that we couldn't get a surprise yet in the way of frost. Love the photo and the editing, Nancy! :)

  12. Very interesting. If our cat sneezes, we typically look for rain to arrive.

  14. Good to learn the local wisdom...thanks. You know, I am planning on getting a mesquite cookbook. I thought it would be such fun to make recipes using the beans, and I know the Indians ate them a lot. A good "survival" food!
