Skywatch Friday #38
Local wisdom states that until the mesquite trees bud out we could still get a freeze. The temperature is going to be in the mid-to-upper 80s today with still no buds in sight.
Our farmers haven't planted yet, normally we're in danger of frost until after April 15 but historically the best bet is May; however, I see the stores are starting to get their bedding plants in. It's been in the 80s here!
Well, if it's the Mesquite tree they use as a guide...and this is remotely accurate. All our indicators (in the field behind us) got bull dozed late last year.
Good to learn the local wisdom...thanks. You know, I am planning on getting a mesquite cookbook. I thought it would be such fun to make recipes using the beans, and I know the Indians ate them a lot. A good "survival" food!

love a craggy ol' tree - even if it is a mesquite.
ReplyDeletehope your spring arrives, soon!
The weather is so changeable, and I think everywhere. Nice shot. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot! I love the local wisdoms that have been around for ages.
ReplyDeleteLove your shot, and your framing of the photo is great.
ReplyDeleteNice view. Good advice about the buds,I will store that away ~
ReplyDeleteSerious...upper 80's? Crazy weather!
ReplyDeleteLove your shot and the boarder goes really nice with it.
Seeing the tree made me think how good this wood is for flavoring a BBQ.

Stark beauty, nicely captured!
ReplyDeleteI'm still not convinced that we couldn't get a surprise yet in the way of frost. Love the photo and the editing, Nancy! :)
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. If our cat sneezes, we typically look for rain to arrive.
ReplyDeleteLove the sillouetted tree against the sky. Neat weather predicter! We've cooled way off here, but haven't really gotten a freeze.
