Friday's Fences - 12/14/2012

Our fence out front, taken this morning in the rain. I very seldom get good pictures of the ravens and didn't want to miss an opportunity! :)

Friday's Fences - 11/16/2012

It's silly, I know, but I'm always excited when I can find a cool fence to share with Friday's Fences! :)
This very rustic fence was along a walking path at the Holy Trinity Monastery. I can just imagine how labor intensive it was to build this!

Waiting...

We were at the Triangle T Historic Ranch and Retreat Center in Dragoon recently for their garlic festival when I spied these guys waiting...
I liked the fence around the old bathtub! :-)

The Ravens

I have been having better luck getting pictures of the Ravens lately. I caught these guys as we were coming back from our morning walk recently. We have an adult pair that live here year round and we have had four juveniles hanging out this summer. I'm pretty sure these four are the juveniles as the older birds are quite a bit larger.

I have been wondering if all four of the young ones belong to the same parents. According to Whatbird and All About Birds, these are Chihuahuan Ravens and they lay between one and eight eggs per clutch so I guess they probably are.

It gets pretty loud around here when they are all sitting on the stock panel "talking" at the same time in their raucous voices! ;-)

A Bird On A Fence

I was sitting in the truck waiting for Jerry while he was talking with one of his buddies when I spied this pretty Pyrrhuloxia sitting on the fence rail nearby. I was pretty tickled that he sat there long enough for me to change lenses and snap a couple of pictures! :) Linking up with Friday's Fences this week and Wild Bird Wednesday.

P.S. I actually thought the bird was a female Cardinal until I looked it up on Whatbird.com. Thanks to blogging buddies like TexWisGirl, I didn't want to embarrass myself with a misidentification! LOL!! I did learn that they are in the Cardinal and Grosbeak family and are sometimes called a Desert Cardinal.

Friday's Fences - #34

Another picture taken at the Mescal movie set. This is looking north towards the Rincon Mountains. Linking up with Jan and Jer for Friday's Fences.

Friday's Fences #30

There is so much neat old fencing in the cow pasture where we walk. It is left over from when this whole area was part of a working ranch. Do you think this tree was still alive when it was incorporated into this fence? :)

Oh, by the way, the mesquite trees have all leafed out so we shouldn't have any more freezes!

Friday's Fences - 27

I have a couple of gates to share today for Friday's Fences. These are both on the road to Cascabel. I like the name of this one, "Dusty Dove." If you look closely you can see the coyote cutouts on the gate. :)

This gate is different. It was standing wide open so I had a bit of trouble getting a good angle and the sun wasn't helping much either. The metal is actually pretty rusty but that wasn't showing up in the original picture, I think the edited version makes for a more interesting picture.

Friday's Fences #26

I have a gate for today's Friday's Fences, I hope that is okay. There is a fence attached to it! :)

This is the entry gate of the property belonging to the people we bought Dallas from last week. When we went to pick him up, I just had to take the camera along to get some pictures of this cool gate! I asked the husband how he got the saddle and boots up there, he used the backhoe. Duh! I like the cow skull on the side too. Here is a close-up of the metal cut-out on top.

Linking up with Life According to Jan and Jer for Friday's Fences. Oh yeah, I have been riding Dallas for the past three days and I'm still here to tell about it! LOL!! He is a whole lot little spoiled but he is getting over it. I guess the grandkids had mostly been riding him and he had figured out that he could pretty much do what he wanted, which seems to have been as little as possible. Not anymore buck-o! ;-) He really is a nice horse and once he figures out that I am now in charge he's going to be great!

Gated Entry

I really like the look of this old gate and the fact that it is wired to the post on the hinge side and tied shut with baling twine. With the weed growing up through it, I don't think it gets opened very often! ;-)

Make-Do Fencing

Here in our little corner of Arizona, fences are made using whatever material is handy. In this case, barbed wire and yucca stalks with the occasional T-post to keep it sturdy.
