Barn Parts

We visited some friends in Willcox recently. They live on an old ranch property with a nice old wooden barn. The barn itself is pretty cool but I really like this old door and it's hinges.

Check out all the different types of fasteners holding on this hinge! I would say it's been repaired once or twice, wouldn't you?  ;)

Barn Makeover

We enclosed the rest of the barn this past Sunday. It is something we have talked about for a couple of years and finally got around to doing. Most of the barns in this part of the country are made of metal because of the terrible termite problems.

Here, in this picture from last summer, you can see how it was open by the stalls.

The enclosed area in the picture on the left is the tack room. When we ordered the "barn" (actually a carport!), we had that part enclosed.

There is also a roll-up door to access the tack room. This is looking east.

Here are the before and after shots of the horses' stalls looking west. They now have shelter on the sides to help cut down on the wind and rain.

This is looking straight into the new and improved barn from Mysti's stall, Paco's stall is on the right. We also enclosed the far end past the breezeway to keep the hay out of the weather.

When it's colder out, Jerry puts Buddy's blanket up on the hay for his bed. If he doesn't, Buddy kind of tears up the hay making a "nest" to sleep in. ;)
Enclosing the sides created a whole new feel to the barn and we are really tickled with how it turned out! Now if we only had electricity down there...

Barn Charm - 12/04/2012

This is the barn at Sleeping Frog Farm. I'm not sure how charming it is but it is painted red with white trim.

It does have a charming Dutch door and...

how many barns have you seen with a chandelier?!? :)

Barn Charm - 11/20/2012

This very much "lived in" barn was right beside the highway in Lincoln county, New Mexico.
I suspect the folks who live there (and were outside working) were wondering what the crazy lady with the camera was up to! :)
Here is the picture before editing with Pixlr and adding Kim Klassen's Kristin texture.

Barn Charm - 10/16/2012

Well, it's kinda like a barn! ;-)

We took a trip to Ruidoso, New Mexico this past weekend to visit one of Jerry's buddies and his wife and attend the Lincoln County Cowboy Symposium. We also had the opportunity to do a little sightseeing around this beautiful part of New Mexico.

These pictures are of the stables and silos at historic Fort Stanton. The fort was built in 1855 and served as a military fortification, a tuberculosis hospital and a WWII internment camp.

I absolutely love these silos! There was a wall around the stables and silos so I had to take pictures as best I could.

Barn Charm - 08/28/2012

We don't have a whole lot of barns around these parts and the ones we do have, I don't usually consider charming. This one was probably pretty charming back in the day but now, it's pretty much just waiting to fall down. It is located right next to a new freeway interchange.

Most of the wooden barns in this part of the country have been replaced by metal ones due to a really, really bad problem with termites!

All of these pictures have been edited with Pixlr-o-matic.

Barn Charm #81

This two-year-old barn belongs to our friends. The upstairs/loft has been finished and is the "Man Cave" complete with satellite television and internet, a sofa, a bar and a fridge! :)

Remeber T-Bone and Shorty? This is where they live. Here is T-Bone checking to see if someone is bringing him a treat!

Barn Charm - 79

This old, abandoned barn is behind the closed Burger King just off the interstate in Benson.

Barn Charm #78

This barn belongs to a friend of ours. It's pretty fancy for this part of the Arizona desert. It has a few decorations inside.

I like this old painting.

I really, really like all the interior doors! :)

And the weathervane.

There is a dog, Rose. She is a sweetheart!

And there is even a horse! LOL!! He is a handsome, flea-bit gray Arabian stud.

Barn Charm #76

"Wow! This is a cool looking old barn...kind of different..."

"I wonder what it was used for? Let's go look around inside."

"Well...it's certainly seen better days! What is that stuff over against the wall?"

"Hey! This was a milking barn! I had heard there used to be a dairy around here!"

"There's even a good lookin' cowboy to show me how the stanchions work! Isn't he sweet to drive me all over half the county looking for photo ops?!?" ;-)

Barn Charm

You can just barely see this old barn from the main road because of the trees and brush so we took a side road hoping to get a better view. I couldn't get any closer because of fences and closed gates. :)

Here is a wider view showing a big old cottonwood tree next to it. We don't have many wooden barns in this part of the country or two-story ones either. I'm not sure how charming it is but I'm linking up with Tricia at Bluff Area Daily for Barn Charm.
