Rural Thursday #12

This very nice, working windmill is right beside the road on the way to Tombstone. There was still quite a bit of "bushwhacking" involved to get the angle I wanted and I'm sure the people driving by were wondering "What the heck is that crazy woman taking pictures of out there in the mesquites?!?" :)

Abigail and Kids - Update

Abigial is doing very good now, she is eating well and is back to her normal self.

Unfortunately, the little doeling died this morning. She was fine all day Monday, nursing, hopping around and starting to play with her brothers. On Tuesday morning, when we went down to the barn, she was off by herself and looking listless. I put her next to her mom so she could nurse and she half-heartedly went for the teat but would never latch on. I fixed her a bottle from Madeline's milk and made sure she got some milk. We kept checking on her throughout the day and fed her but she kept getting weaker. She went downhill pretty quickly and, unfortunately, we do not have a vet in the area who will deal with goats. The little doe died in my arms this morning when I was getting ready to give her a bottle. I tell you, this part of having animals really sucks...

Anyway, both the boys are doing REALLY well and Abigail is being a good mom. She is very attentive and they are both getting plenty to eat and seem to be thriving.

I hope to get back on schedule with my blog tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your comments, suggestions and well wishes.

Abigail's Kids

Abigail had her kids Sunday afternoon! My friend, Donna, and her husband were here for Easter and she and I went down to check on Abigail after dinner because I figured she would be kidding soon. She had a contraction while we were there so back to the house to get some towels. I figured she would probably take half an hour or so but when we got back, she had delivered #1 Son and he was pretty much dry!

I moved him into the goat house and she spent some time cleaning him up. It was a good half hour before she started having contractions again and then it was only a matter of a few minutes before she delivered #2 Son and her little girl, Lily.

I sure was hoping she would only have two but, so far, she is nursing all three. I took some more pictures this morning.

I am a bit worried about Abigail, she will eat the goat ration that I bring her and she has been drinking water but she hasn't been eating her alfalfa. If anyone has any input or suggestions I would really appreciate it!

Sunday Photo - Butterfly and Daffodils

Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly visiting the Spanish lavender. Linking up with Jan for Straight Out Of the Camera Sunday.

I bought myself some cut daffodils for Easter and they were so pretty that I couldn't pass up taking a picture! This photo was edited with Pixlr-O-Matic. Linking up with Nancy for Your Sunday Best and Madge for Weekly Top Shot.

Friday's Fences - 27

I have a couple of gates to share today for Friday's Fences. These are both on the road to Cascabel. I like the name of this one, "Dusty Dove." If you look closely you can see the coyote cutouts on the gate. :)

This gate is different. It was standing wide open so I had a bit of trouble getting a good angle and the sun wasn't helping much either. The metal is actually pretty rusty but that wasn't showing up in the original picture, I think the edited version makes for a more interesting picture.

Rural Thursday - 11

I took my camera when I went with Jerry over to Willcox yesterday to buy some hay for the critters and I sure am glad I did because they had...BABY HORSES!!

There were two Palomino fillies and a little Bay stud. Mr. Kuhn raises and sells registered Quarter Horses.
