What I Have Been Up To...

...in between working on my Chicken Applique quilt, getting seeds started in my little greenhouse for this summer, volunteering at the Tombstone Art Gallery, participating in a Farmgirl Craft Swap and regular day-to-day cookin', cleanin' and clothes washin'.

These are 100% Mohair cinches hand woven by little ol' me and available for purchase on my new Lazy J Bar C Facebook page here. Mohair is the lustrous and strong hair of the Angora goat and is a traditional fiber for cinches. It's strong, it breathes and it wicks moisture away from the horse; whereas wool is a natural fiber but holds the moisture in rather than absorbing it and acrylic fibers don't breathe. Plus, it's a beautiful and functional piece of handmade 'wearable art' for the horse.

If you are in the market for a new cinch or know a horse lover who might be interested, I hope you will check out my handmade Mohair cinches. They also make nice gifts.  :)

P.S. I will post an update on my Chicken Applique quilt soon. The back is finished and part of the quilting is done. YAY!!

Sharing with Farmgirl Friday.

Not gonna try to fool you, this city girl doesn't know what a cinch is... But, I do appreciate the very pretty colors and weaving:@)

That is so cool that you actually made these. Really makes me wish I had a horse to buy one for. Wow girl, you are full of surprises.

The cinches are beautiful, Candy! Looks like you are enjoying a new creative outlet.

I have garden thoughts too, but it's too early to get very ambitious. I need to do a little research on raised beds and map out what I want to plant. After last year I think I can manage a little bigger garden than last summer.

I am excited to see your chicky quilt.

There's nothing like hand made! Those cinches are really nice! Wish I could use some, but I don't think the cows would cooperate too well. :)

I was going to ask what a cinch is, but then went back to re-read your post! LOL

This is the result of that loom we saw on your kitchen table? Wow! I am SOOO impressed! First of all, I don't think you'd have to be a horse-owner to buy one! It would look great hanging on a wall or on a shelf with a cowboy hat and spurs as a decorative item! You did a beautiful job...they look absolutely professional!

Secondly, I want to start weaving...yes, I know, I want to get back to crochet, have you teach me tatting, and quilt about a hundred things (Not to mention painting! Oh, and the gourd art I want to learn!) but I don't know if you know it, but I have an antique weaving loom in storage, and that just about kills me, not to have it here, and put together, and on display. I thought I might like to start doing inkle or card loom weaving, just because the loom is simple and small and I can think of a dozen things I could make. I just need to be about six people! :-) You on the other hand, since you retired, have been quite the busy bee, and I am so amazed at all your accomplishments! You go girl!
