Skywatch Friday - Sun Dog

We had the coolest Sun Dog late Wednesday afternoon, it kind of looked like a comet streaking across the sky! The scientific name for a Sun Dog is parhelion, from Greek meaning "beside the sun." If you want to see a really neat double Sun Dog and learn more about these atmospheric phenomena, check out Sally's blog at Sally Saw.
Linking up with Skywatch Friday and Weekly Top Shot.

How cool (or should I say cold?) that you saw this. It truly does look like a comet!

Thanks for the link up. I saw another double yesterday on the way home from work...not sure if the picture will turn out. I haven't check.

Have a terrific weekend!!

Oh, that's a neat one! I'm glad you got a picture! Sorry about the FM this morning....when I saw the moon surrounded by a halo of light last night I knew there wasn't any chance there wouldn't be rain!

That's pretty neat looking! We're taking a weather spotter class, maybe they'll talk about all these strange things.

That is one of the brightest sundogs I have ever seen. (and I just recently learned that those little rainbows in the clouds near the sun are called sundogs.)

I captured one last year -- they are amazing!

That is beautiful! It is one of the good things about cold weather I guess.
