We had the coolest Sun Dog late Wednesday afternoon, it kind of looked like a comet streaking across the sky! The scientific name for a Sun Dog is parhelion, from Greek meaning "beside the sun." If you want to see a really neat double Sun Dog and learn more about these atmospheric phenomena, check out Sally's blog at Sally Saw.

I don't think I even knew about sundogs! They are lovely, whatever they are. You certainly captured it well with this shot.

How cool (or should I say cold?) that you saw this. It truly does look like a comet!
Thanks for the link up. I saw another double yesterday on the way home from work...not sure if the picture will turn out. I haven't check.
Have a terrific weekend!!
Beautiful shot. I only learned about sun dogs recently through bloggers' photos.
Great shot of something I did not know. Heard of it - but had no clue.
Oh, that's a neat one! I'm glad you got a picture! Sorry about the FM this morning....when I saw the moon surrounded by a halo of light last night I knew there wasn't any chance there wouldn't be rain!
Very cool. I think it is an omen. :)
Gorgeous, you're the only person I've run across who noticed one besides me and knew what it was too! Thank you for sharing on Weekly Top Shot #67!
Woah, so neat! I've never seen one of those before. I hope I do one day!
Oh that is cool and it does look like a comet. Great capture of this wonderful sight.
Neat capture- I've only seen one or two of these before- very rare to me.
Great clouds in this!
That's pretty neat looking! We're taking a weather spotter class, maybe they'll talk about all these strange things.
That sun dog is so beautiful Candy!
I had never heard of these before. Nice capture!
That is one of the brightest sundogs I have ever seen. (and I just recently learned that those little rainbows in the clouds near the sun are called sundogs.)
I captured one last year -- they are amazing!
That is beautiful! It is one of the good things about cold weather I guess.
Great to see. I learned something today too. Thank you for a great shot.
Wow - what a great picture!
