I Don't Like Spiders And....

Great BIG grasshoppers in my garden!! These guys are called Mexican Generals around here because of their bright coloring, their wings are red. This one is about 3 inches long.

Hiding in the zucchini.

Now for the spiders....

Hanging out between the goat pen and the horse corral.

Little Joe thought he wanted to chase this one!

Holy freaking moly - I am not sure if my boys would want to chase and catch those babies...or run! I always forget that you are down south. :) Those are some amazing bugs!

And now that I have that song stuck in my head about the spiders and snakes, I think I'll out to my own garden. ;)

That's why I live way up here. We've got spiders that are big enough (wolf/barn spiders). But they are nothing compared to the ones you've got and are not dangerous. I don't know what I would do if I lived somewhere with tarantulas just roaming around. Ella would never be allowed outside and I'd be a basket case :)

And thanks Mama Tea, now I've got that song stuck in my head too :P

Amy,
Little Joe is Jerry's mom's little dog. I took him out the other evening and when he saw the tarantula, he started chasing it! The tarantula turned around and took a defensive stance so I had to yell at the dog to stop! Harriet would have never forgiven me if her little dog got bit by a tarantula!

Paula,
We don't really see that many tarantulas, thank goodness, and they are generally pretty harmless; leave them alone and they leave you alone. :) It does always startle me when I walk up on one though! LOL!!

TWG,
I figured you would appreciate the grasshopper! ;)

Wow!
I wouldn't care for those spiders either.
We've had our share of grasshoppers this summer too, and yesterday I saw yet another type, coming from the cow pasture that backs up to our property... about 3 inches long and flying, not so much hopping!
Nuisance!

Pat,
I thought the grasshoppers would have been bad here this year because we have had quite a bit of rain but, fortunately, they haven't been! :) That's only about the third one of the "big guys" I've seen.

Okay, those last spider pictures are spooky. I thought I had it bad with wolf spiders and black water snakes, but sheesh. Those make the hair on my arms stand up.

Kristina,
Yeah, the tarantulas are kinda scary looking but they don't generally bother anyone! :)
