Random 5 Friday - 07/12/2013

1.  Only one of my gladioluses (gladioli?) bloomed this year. It may have been because we dug them up and transplanted them too late. This one was missed when we were digging the others up.

2.  We have finally started getting some of our summer monsoon rains and it has sure helped with the record-breaking heat.

3.  All the rain has brought humidity though. I just don't know how ya'll back east deal with it! I'll take our typical Arizona 'dry heat' any time!

4.  We lost Barn Kitty this past week. We found him half under the rosemary bushes that run along the front porch. We suspect he ate a Sonoran Desert toad as there weren't any obvious signs of trauma. The toads are out in force with the rain and we hear their songs all night long. Barn Kitty was such a feral cat that we didn't realize just how big he was until we pulled him out of there.

5.  I have been really, really busy with my baking for the Farmer's Market these past few weeks and haven't had much time for blogging. I sure appreciate the emails and comments checking in on me, thanks! :)
I need to make more of an effort to keep up with my blogging as it is my only social outlet Monday through Friday and I have missed you all!

Linking up with Nancy for Random 5 Friday.

What a pretty Glad! I planted some this year for the first in a long time...no blooms yet, though. As for the humidity...it's horrid this year. I think I'd like to try some of your dry air for a change!

Such a pretty flower -- I tried growing gladiolas but didn't like digging them up every year.

So sorry about your kitty -- that must have been difficult to find him that way.

That is sad about Barn Kitty, we've a 6 year old undomesticated boy who if I don't see him 5-6 times a day I worry, I'm sorry about your guy. My favourite flower is the Gladiola, such a beautiful photo.

Humidity is so much fun! Ha! I don't mind the heat but I always find the humidity oppressive. It zaps my energy!

So sorry to hear about Barn Kitty.

Sorry about your Kitty. It's sad to lose even the wild ones.

Love the glad! I don't grow them because I don't want to have to dig them up and replant them every year. My MIL loved dahlias and I just think they are too much work. But they sure are pretty.

Baautiful gladioli! At least you have one to enjoy. Hope things have been going good at the Farmer's Market. Try to stay cool, my Friend.

It's a tough life, being a barn kitty. I hope he didn't suffer. And I am so glad to see your post! I figured you were busy, busy, busy -- but we do worry about you when we don't get to see your wonderful photographs every once in a while!

Oh I was so sad to read that you lost Barn Kitty, he was such a cute cat, reminds me a lot of our Captain Cuddles. - We feed a feral cat (Blondie) and I always worry when I don't see him for a few days.
Your Gladiola is gorgeous. I use to grow them but then we dug them all up one year and now they've been replaced with Iris plants. I like them too.

Poor kitty! I think snake bites got some of ours in the past. Now there is something affecting the males. Our neighbor's vet thinks it is a parasite but tiny enough so that it is not easily identifiable without very expensive testing. He recommended a wormer. One cat loved it and the other promptly threw up! Hope all the other pets are doing ok.

What a gorgeous gladiola! Bright, happy yellow. :)

I'm sorry about Barn Kitty. Feral cats have such hard, short lives..

Glad you're getting rain!

I had been wondering if you were busy in the kitchen again this year. Hope the market is going well despite the heat.

It has been a huge struggle for me to keep up with visiting blogs this summer. Hard enough to do my own posts. Glad you're doing well and keeping busy! Sorry to hear about your barn kitty. It's always nice to have a good cat around the barn.
