Sunday Photo - Oxen

Meet Fluffy and Cuddles...yep, that is really their names! These guys came to the Farmer's Market yesterday to offer free wagon rides to anyone interested.

Their owner, one of our local doctors, is a big supporter of our Farmer's Market and really believes in eating locally grown foods. In fact, he raised these two behemoths from calves and trained them to the yoke so that he could use them to plow and plant wheat...and he does!! His family also harvests, cleans and grinds the wheat into flour for baking. I bought some flour from them a couple of years ago and really liked it!

Here is their "dad," Dr. Andy, standing next to them. To give you some perspective, he is 6'3'' tall. He walks beside and drives them with the whip. It's always fun when Fluffly and Cuddles come to visit, they hang out by the road and we get a lot of people stopping in just to see them and they usually come visit the vendors at the Farmer's Market too! ;-)

TWG,
It's funny you should mention that because Dr. Andy had just given them a bath so that they would look good for the Market! LOL!!

They didn't look that big is the first photo, then when you mention Dr. Andy is 6'3", they look really big.

Josiah and I looked at your photo archives. We sure like your desert/farm pics. Josiah noticed you had "thousands" of goat pics. LOL. Keep the photos coming. Your Bro"

Wow, at first I thought they're not that big but in perspective, they certainly are! Love that story so much... Thank you Candy, for sharing on Weekly Top Shot #33!

I love oxen - what a beautiful duo they are! Obviously, well-loved.

These oxen are absolutely wonderful! How great that their owner uses them to plow wheat! The fact that he grows wheat and sells it is just really great. I have to check out your Farmer's Market some time. It looks like a wonderful one! I have always wanted to paint a picture of the oxen I saw at Williamsburg. Maybe I will....They are just great animals!

Do you know what kind they are? They look like huge Holsteins with horns! :)

On another note...your posts haven't been showing up on my dashboard...have you ever had that happen? It's been happening with several blogs that I follow!!

They are such handsome guys! I just love my ox, but he's kind of strong willed. I'm not sure I would have been able to train him if I tried, but he's done a good job of training me. :-)

They are so beautiful! Are they holstiens? I'd be a bit intimidated by the horns, but I am sure they are friendly...
