Hamburger and Hot Dog Buns

We are having family and friends over for the 4th again this year and since my homemade hamburger and hot dog buns were such a hit last year, I figured I better make them again this year! I use the Oatmeal Bread recipe from the back of the King Arthur Flour Bread Flour bag.

3 cups bread flour
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 cup lukewarm milk
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoon honey
2 teaspoons instant yeast OR 1 packet active dry yeast (If using active dry yeast, dissolve it in the warm milk before combining with the remaining ingredients.)

Mix, knead and let your dough rise until doubled using your favorite method; bread machine, manual or stand mixer. Divide dough into 8 equal pieces for hamburger buns or 12 equal pieces for hot dog buns. To shape hamburger buns, shape dough into a ball and flatten, turning and flattening with your fingers until pretty flat to allow for rising.

To shape hot dog buns, roll each piece into a log and flatten.

Cover and let rise in a warm place until nearly doubled.

Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.

They may not all be perfect but they sure taste better than those insipid, squishy, white bread buns from the supermarket! Enjoy your 4th of July everyone!

I will be trying your recipe. I haven't bought a loaf of bread for a few years now and just make our own. I've been wanting to make some buns so I'll give it a try this weekend. Thanks!

Hi Cindy!

That is the same way I started! I had a time figuring out how to make the hamburger buns "bun-like" and not rolls but I am happy with the way they come out!

Thank you for sharing! VERY worth trying! I LOVE my bread machine, can't help it!

TASO,

I probably wouldn't make as much bread as I do if it wasn't for my bread machine! :)
